Emmerich Joseph de Dalberg, Duke of Dalberg

The Duke of Dalberg was a German diplomat who was elevated to the French nobility in the Napoleonic era. However, when Napoleon was defeated and Talleyrand disgraced, Dalberg himself became discredited. Together with Talleyrand, he joined the French provisional government of 1814 and assisted at the Congress of Vienna as one of the five French representatives. Only returning to France after Napoleon had been conquered at the end of the Hundred Days, Dalberg held senior government positions during the Bourbon Restoration. Among others, he was appointed ambassador to Turin at the beginning of 1816.
